Bumping into yoga misconceptions is entertaining and thrilling. Yoga is relaxing, but shit can get real, initiating a yoga beast mode, heating up the moment. Have you tried or heard of hot yoga such as Bikram, Yin or Forrest Yoga? These yoga forms incorporate badass poses transitioning through beginner’s, intermediate and advanced stages. Any who, why not jot down the commonest uttered out yoga stereotypes?
Starting with an obvious: Meditating: Any time someone unfamiliar with yoga finds out that I am a yogist, their mind trails towards meditating. Some resort to placing their ravished butts unto the ground, transitioning into a hysterical meditating pose. A few think of a tree pose, one of the commonest poses. Yoga not only involves meditating, but stretches and poses too. To achieve maximum benefits from yoga, meditating, stretching and posing must be combined. This results into a disciplined mind and body.
Hippies: Well, I once preferred living a society “hippie” based lifestyle. It was comforting, with less worries of daily events. The wilderness was enjoyed, furnished with living in a moment. A defined life plan wasn’t a necessity, only a series of random decisions trailing within.
Free spirits: Seriously, who doesn’t want to be free? Well, alright; being dominated is a thing springing up lately, brightening lives of many. Simply choose your poison, and trail on.
Vegetarians: Although I immerse a great physique of mine into yoga, I enjoy a fresh, roasted and juicy piece of meat: tamed or wild, bring it on. Besides, I possess a few hunting skills which have proven essential over the years.
Planet lovers: Listening to voices of creatures of Mother Nature thrills my chills. Go green and if really have to print, do it in a dark shade of grey, instead of black and white: one also saves on ink costs.
Double jointed: Though I have done yoga for about ten years, there are poses I can’t do. Some individuals are gifted by Mother Nature and are capable of displaying amazing poses and stretches. However, one doesn’t have to be stretchy, twisting their body into rare and weird poses.
Lame: Poses such as corpse and prone poses are very relaxing and deemed a waste of time. These poses do fully relax and stretch one’s body. Many forget to keep stretching, then hold a pose for a few seconds, followed by continued stretching and holding. Easy looking poses must be spiced up, rather than considering them as a waste of time, kicking them out of a routine.
Breathing: It is a very important aspect of yoga, yet irrelevant to many. During a Saturday yoga session, I caught attention of a passerby. Upon finishing, he asked why my stomach kept raising and lowering like that of a sleeping baby? I loved his kin observation. I explained to him about the cool technique of proper deep breathing, from the stomach.
Only thing done: No, I also indulge in other life activities such as this thing called adulting and living life to the fullest. However, if it was possible, I would love to plunge a daily life of mine into continuous yoga sessions.
It’s Stupid: Yeah right, yet benefits achieved greatly outweigh thoughts which tickle minds of many. Despite of all years I have spent yoging, I find yoga more challenging than other forms of exercising, including weight lifting. What of you? Is yoga simply a walk through a park?
